Department Of Physiology

Department of Physiology

Physiology is a branch of biology which focusing on the functioning and mechanisms in living beings.

Vision- Enable students to develop essential scientific skills, content knowledge and team work skills

Mission- To provide students with hands on access to modern techniques in human physiological analyses using course-based research pedagogical approach

Expansions planned for the future

Clinical services- Clinical physiology services to be expandible to hospital side for

  • Diagnostic Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), Electroencephalogram (EEG), Electromyography (EMG) and other electrophysiological tests such as Visual Evoked Potential (VEP), Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential (BAEP).
  • Autonomic Function Tests, for example Heart Rate Variability, Head Up Tilt test (HUT), Cold Pressor Test (CPT), Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), Valsalva Maneuver (VM)
  • Physiological monitoring kit including multiple metabolic carts and equipment to analyze body composition and heart rate

     Academics and teaching

  • Creating a learning environment that relies on collaborative work and emphasizes communication among peers and staff
  • Placing emphasis on collaborative assignments where students participate in experiments as experimenters and subjects
  • To provide much needed inclination towards clinically oriented teaching of basic sciences
  • Student centric learning activity supplemented by guided self -directed learning

     Learning outcomes

  • Develop skills necessary to examine and interpret issues related to human physiology
  • Synthesize ideas to make connections between knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and real-world problems involving human health and medicine

     Research

  • Focusing on course based undergraduate research
  • To enhance neurophysiology research projects involving establishment of Sleep lab, exercise physiology and yoga lab
  • Applied physiology lab is an innovative facility dedicated to explore the interaction of exercises and nutrition for improving health and human performance
